What is staking?

By delegating your tokens to validator on the network, you are supporting better network security and in return for this, you can receive a percentage reward.

What does Proof-of-Stake mean?

Proof-of-Stake (PoS) is a consensus mechanism used by validators to verify transactions. Through PoS, validators are selected to verify transactions by the amount they have staked on the network. The stake is used to determine the power of votes by each validator.

What are the advantages of staking?

By staking assets, holders of cryptocurrency can generate rewards in a secure and efficient way.

What are the risks associated with staking?

The staked amount is locked up for a certain period of time, therefore these assets cannot be transferred or traded during this period.

How do I start staking – where can I buy tokens?

To stake your assets, a cryptocurrency from a PoS network is required, for example, Solana, Ethereum, Cosmos, etc. You cannot stake proof-of-work assets. You can buy tokens on centralized exchanges.

Is there a minimum staking amount?

The minimum amount required depends on the asset you are trying to stake. Most networks do not have a minimum limit.

What is the staking APY?

Staking APY is a percentage rate reflecting the total amount of staking rewards projected to be received over an annual period. The staking reward depends on what project you choose to participate in. As a rule of thumb, the range is between 5 – 15%.

Is there an unstaking period?

There is usually an unstaking period which is referred to as a 'cool-down period'. Following this, your tokens will become transferable. The duration of an unstaking period depends on project conditions - this could be days, weeks or months. For Solana it takes up to 3 days to unlock your tokens, on Cosmos Hub it takes 21 days.

Do I keep custody of my tokens?
